WHAT A FIND!

I just looked up my new Lady in the red dress! It is by M. Ditlef...it is called "Sonata"...it is for sale on the net...for $150.00 to $1500.00 big ones! Depending on if they are signed or not and have a tag...mine is signed and has a tag! They were also lithographed in Chicago by Turner Manufacturing...

You are right Sandi...it was a GREAT FIND! I am so excited!

  6. They have a tag on them on the back that shows the number in which they were made and where they were made and then some have a tag on the front in metal that identifies the name of the painting. I hope this helps you!

  7. That is such a beautiful picture. Even if it did't have any monetary value I love it and would hang it up!

  10. I have this exact painting. I found it in a little thrift store in MD about 9 years ago. I don't know anything about it. It looks very old. It has a kind of yellow color about it. Telling me that not only that it is old, but maybe the previous owner was a smoker? It has the M.Ditlef in the lower left hand corner. The frame however does not have the little plate with the name of the painting and the artist on it. The paper backing was crumbling and falling off when I got it. It looks as thought the previous owner attempted to use masking tape to attach it back on. The only thing that is on the back of my painting is a stamp that says Sonata on it. A little more than half of the paper has crumbled and fallen off over time. I've had it put away in packing paper for the last 5 years because we are a military family and move often. I was thinking about giving it to my sister because I never put anything on the walls of my home because we move every 3 years. So putting pictures on my walls every 3 years gets a little old, but I decided to take it out of it's packing paper this morning and look at it and decided that I just can't part with it. Where would the number on the back of the painting have been located. Like I said the only thing on the back of mine in the middle of it there's a stamp that says Sonata. The top half of the paper is missing. Thanks for your help!!

  12. I recently inherited the Sonata. I actually remember going with my mother to a hug store in StLouis when I was around 7 yrs old when she bought it. The picture now lovingly hangs over my couch In my living room as it use to hang over my mothers couch in her living room. The picture is signed and is in the original frame the picture and frame are in excellent condition. I will be 72 this year, 2017, I have 3 daughters and 6 grandchildren one day one of them will inherit the picture. I hope it stays in our family and becomes an heirloom. It is quit a beautiful picture. The lady always reminded my brothers and Inof our mother.

  16. I found this painting at a thrift store about 4 years ago. My Nana had the same painting hanging in her living room when I was a kid. I always admired the painting (feeling taken in by it-always thought the woman was so beautiful.) I bought the painting for the amount of money i had in my wallet, I was a few dollars short but explained to the sales person the attachment I had to the picture and he let me have it. I paid $30.00 for it the tag was $35.00. For me, it is not a matter of it being original, the picture holds a special place in my heart.

  17. I am 71 and have my grandmothers. It hung over her piano, then over my piano then my daughters piano. She just gave it back to me and I had nowhere to hang it. But I just can't give it up. Its such a treasured piece.
